When I am listening to a client, I am listening to understand not just what happened to the client and how she feels about it but what she makes of it. What does it mean to her that this thing happened? How is it impacting her sense of self and the story of her life?
Home-based counseling can be complicated. I had questions about it and I wanted to talk to people more experienced than I am so I pitched an article to Counseling Today, which is the trade magazine for the American Counseling Association. The result, “Home is Where the Client is”, is in the September issue.
